Public Relations Resources

Ham radio can be a life-long hobby, and it’s a hobby with 100 hobbies within a hobby, but getting the word out is a challenge.  Also, the media doesn’t think like most hams (and vice versa), so publicity needs to go out the way they want–often without all the details hams love to share.  This is especially true for Field Day.  Here are some suggestions by the ARRL from members who worked in the media:

  • How to Write an Impactful Press Release, by Scott Roberts KK4ECR, ARRL (text version notes)
  • Field Day Press Release Template, by ARRL

Oregon Section Resources:

  • Oregon Broadcasters, Newspaper & Legislator Contact Information
  • Sample Press Release Including Oregon’s Governor’s Proclamation
  • Sample Government Official Invitation Including Oregon’s Governor’s Proclamation
